Solid defense although Malone and Odoi look very average at crossing the ball. MacDonald looked a class above everyone else. solid, calm and very level headed. Tunnicliffe was rubbish. Cairney is class but is asked to play too wide. Keeps drifting in and looks better in the hole behind Aluko but it sometimes gets too crowded there Ayite looked promising but perhaps played on the wrong wing Aluko will score goals if he can keep his interest and focus and it seems to me the whole system was set up to avoid Matt Smith, who then showed his worth from set pieces but was never really given a chance otherwise.
That's my view for what it's worth.

I have to agree Hints although I thought Odoi grew into the game and was much better 2nd half of the 2nd half (so to speak). Loved the bit of "see yer" skill off his back - I sit close to where that occurred. McDonald is what we have cried out for since Etuhu left and is a cool customer - I like him. I agree Tunnicliffe was rubbish and I have never rated him to be honest and I think that Aluko needs someone with more speed and agility in front of him - someone who can play off the shoulder like a Walcott type. All in all though you'd have to say it was a massive improvement on last season although very early days. I'm in the area so going to Orient tomorrow; you'll know what I mean when I expect Fulhamish ;-))

Don't get me wrong, it's probably the best start to a season for quite a while and to be fair Newcastle are no mugs. They were forced to hit long balls to Gayle as their only tactic for most of the first half and although we weren't exactly penetrating ourselves we did look the better team. Perhaps Woodrow might get a run this week, i hope so I rated him and he never stops trying. As I say it did seem that Smith was the proverbial spare pr!@k at a wedding for the first half. If you play a guy who is 6' 4" as a target at least play it to him from time to time. Enjoy the match at Leyton Ornament, I am hopeful both Aluko and Ayite can really do some damage this year.
